Calls on the College to Consider the Bodaboda Group
The Ilala District Commissioner, Hon. Edward Mpogolo, has commended the College of Business Education (CBE) for providing training to approximately 600 small-scale entrepreneurs from Ilala District. He mentioned that Ilala District, located in Dar es Salaam, is the most populous district in the country, with an estimated 1.6 million residents, 98% of whom are involved in business.
Hon. Mpogolo made these remarks on October 23, 2024, at the CBE Dar es Salaam Main Campus Auditorium during the closing ceremony of the three-day training offered by the college at no cost as part of its community outreach initiative. He expressed his support for these efforts and stated his willingness to cooperate in ensuring that this education reaches those who missed out this time.
“You provide business education, but these women live that education. They sustain their lives through business, and we are very grateful for teaching us better ways to improve our businesses, including standardizing and adding value to them. I urge the College to also consider the bodaboda (motorcycle taxi) group, which is engaged in business alongside these women,” said Hon. Mpogolo.
On her part, the Rector of CBR Principal, Prof. Edda Tandi Lwoga, said that CBE’s vision and goal is not only to provide business education but also to reach entrepreneurs, particularly women and youth, to contribute to and stimulate economic and business growth in the country. She added that similar training would be extended to entrepreneurs in Dodoma, Mwanza, and Mbeya regions in November 2024.
“The entrepreneurs have learned and improved various marketing strategies, the use of social media, professional customer service, and how to prepare business plans. I thank all the participants, and I assure you that this is just the beginning. We will return with different curricula based on demand,” said Prof. Lwoga.
