Establishment  The College of Business Education (CBE) was established in 1965 by the Act of Parliament No. 31 of 1965. The College operates under the Ministry of industry and    Trade. The College has four campuses in Dar es salaam, Dodoma, Mwanza and Mbeya

Our Products

Academic Programs: CBE provides 66 programs from certificate to Master's level in areas such as Accountancy, Business Administration, Marketing Information Technology, Metrology and Standardization, Marketing and Tourism and Events Management, Procurement and Supplies Management, Human Resources Management, Business Studies with Education, Records and Archives Management, Marketing, Digital Marketing, and Leadership and Governance.

Consultancy Services: CBE conducts around on-demand consultancy services for both public and private institutions.

Short Courses: Numerous tailor-made short courses are offered in Business, Management, and related fields.

Incubation Programs: CBE incubation Program focus on preparing youth for innovation, entrepreneurship , and self-employment

Public Engagements: CBE organizes public dialogues, forums, and conferences focusing on Business, Management, and related fields.

Dispersion of CBE graduates across employment opportunities

According to the Tracer Study report covering 2016 to 2021, CBE graduates have found employment across various sectors. Of the total graduates, 36.9% are employed in the public sector, 19.5% in the private sector, and 1.8% in NGOs. The remaining 41.8% are either self-employed or currently unemployed.

Research Projects & Collaborations 
  1. IMPDET (International Multidisciplinary PhD Studies in Educational Technology) (2014- ): An ongoing collaboration between CBE and UEF.

Activities:

  • Through this collaboration with the University of Eastern Finland (UEF), CBE hosts a doctoral training hub that enables its lecturers to enroll in PhD studies. They receive supervision both locally and remotely via digital platforms. To date, we have 8 PhD graduates and 3 candidates currently pursuing their doctoral degrees.
  1. Academic and Education Collaboration with SWUFE (2019- ): Partners include CBE and Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE).

Activities:

  • Currently, 5 CBE lecturers are pursuing PhD studies there, and 3 more lecturers are set to begin their PhD programs in academic year 2025/2026. In addition, 30 candidates are expected to start their master’s studies at SWUFE.
  • In the 2025/2026 academic year, we are launching a new double degree program for Business Administration in which a student will study for two years at SWUFE and two years at CBE. Upon completion, the student will graduate with two certificates awarded by the two institutions.

 

  1. Erasmus Global Mobility with Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (2025-2027): Partners include CBE and Friedrich-Alexander University, funded by the European Union.

Activities:

  • This project involves the mobility of three (3) students who will participate in the exchange programme for one semester each, during the summer of 2026, and four (4) teaching staff members from the College of Business Education to Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) for an exchange visit.
  1. Nature for the Wealth: Philanthropism and Eco tourism in the Global South (2025- 2027). Collaborating institutions: Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, College of Business Education (Dar el Salaam, Tanzania), and Charles Darwin Foundation, Ecuador Funder: VW Foundation

Activities :

  • The project focuses on the recent influx of capital from conservation philanthropy and ecotourism in protected areas of the Global South. It is about how individual super-rich people from North America and Europe influence decisions that affect large parts of the world, especially in the Global South. This raises important questions about social justice, equality, development and the ability of local governments to act that have not been sufficiently addressed so far.
  1. China East African Research Center (CEARC) (2021-2016): A collaboration between CBE and SWUFE, funded by SWUFE.

Focus:

  • The China East African Research Center (CEARC) was a joint initiative between CBE and SWUFE, funded by SWUFE, and operated from 2016 to 2021. Its aim was to promote research, academic collaboration, and cultural exchange between China and East Africa, with a focus on areas such as economics, trade, education, and development. The center also served as a platform for joint projects, publications, and capacity-building programs.
  1. Business and Sustainable Economic Development (BUSEDA) (2022-2024): Partners include CBE, University of Eastern Finland (UEF), Botswana Open University, National University of Lesotho, University of Malawi, University of Mauritius, and University of Seychelles. Funded by the Finnish National Agency for Education.

Activities:

  • This was designed to develop a collaborative academic course combining practical insights into contemporary economic development and the business climate in select African countries and Finland. Its goal was to raise awareness of Africa's economic potential, highlight business opportunities, and present Finland as an attractive investment destination and innovation hub. Additionally, the course included an “Africa‑to‑Africa” dimension to encourage sharing of economic knowledge across African institutions
  1. Erasmus Global Mobility with UEF (2022-2025): Partners are CBE and the University of Eastern Finland (UEF), funded by the European Union.

Activities:

This initiative is a collaborative mobility program between the College of Business Education (CBE) and the University of Eastern Finland (UEF), supported by funding from the European Union. Its primary aim is to facilitate academic exchanges and professional development by enabling students and academic staff to undertake study or teaching visits between the two institutions. To date, one (1) PhD student and two (2) academic staff members from CBE have been invited to UEF under this program.

  1. EDUCase Pilot Project (2022-2025): Focused on environmental collaboration, funded by Finland’s Ministry of Education.

Activities:

  • This initiative, funded by Finland’s Ministry of Education and Culture, is part of the larger EDUCase Platform, a pilot under the Finnish Ministry’s Global Programme. It aims to foster environmental collaboration through case-based partnerships involving higher education institutions in Finland and across Sub-Saharan Africa, including Tanzania. The project coordinates a course series and teaching network often referred to as “Environmental Collaboration and Conflict Resolution” led by the University of Eastern Finland in close collaboration with the College of Business Education (CBE) in Tanzania
  1. Academy Programme for Development Research (2019-2023): A project on forest governance transformation in Tanzania involving CBE and UEF, funded by the Academy Programme for Development.
  2. Enhancing Clinical and Social Data Collection for CCBRT’s Fistula Programme (2022-2021): A partnership involving CBE, MUHAS, and CCBRT, funded by SPIDER.
  3. Africity Project (2017-2021): Studying environmental change and resource use in Sub-Saharan African cities, partnered with Erlangen University, Rhodes University, Malawi University, Sokoine University, and CBE. Funded by the German Government.
  4. Data for Action (2019-2020): A project to improve quality of care for women and people with disabilities, involving CBE and funded by SPIDER.
  5. Rainfall Shocks and Consumption Smoothing (2021-2022): Research on agricultural households in Tanzania, funded by Repoa.
  6. Urbanization, Crime Threat, and Coping Capacity (2021-2022): A study on motorcycle taxi operations in Tanzania, funded by Repoa.
  7. Erasmus+ Global Mobility with SÜLEYMAN DEMİREL UNIVERSITY, TÜRKİYE (2024-2029): Partners are CBE and SÜLEYMAN DEMİREL UNIVERSITY, TÜRKİYE, funded by the European Union.
  8. Pan African Vocational Education and Training (PAVVET) JOENSUU, FINLAND (2023-2027): Partnership for provision of hands-on vocational skills development for youth in Tanzania and Africa in Vocational training, Research, and other related activities.
  9. 3DBEAR, FINLAND (2022-2026): The Project aims to pilot AR/VR learning technologies in Tanzania, specifically in five vocational training fields, in collaboration with Save the Children and other participating organizations, across three geographical areas.
