GENDER DAY - APRIL 2026

FATMA ABDALLAH AT CBE: "GENDER EQUALITY IS THE ENGINE OF THE ECONOMY"; CONGRATULATES PROF. TANDI LWOGA FOR THE GENDER DESK REVOLUTION.

The Managing Director of Puma Energy Tanzania, Fatma Abdallah, has named the College of Business Education (CBE) as a pioneer of practical change in gender issues in the country.

Speaking as the Guest of Honor during the commemorations of Global Gender Day at the college today, April 27, 2026, Fatma said there is a need for concrete steps to increase the participation of women in decision-making positions at the college, to improve psychological and social services for students of all genders, and to establish and strengthen gender desks in all CBE campuses in the country to address gender challenges efficiently.

"From the explanation given by the college leadership, it is clear that concrete steps have been taken in strengthening the participation of women in leadership, improving counseling systems for students, along with establishing and strengthening the gender desk in all campuses," Fatma explained.

The Puma Energy leader has called upon other educational institutions and public organizations to copy the example of CBE. She said that the college has shown a strategic direction that should become a daily culture instead of remaining a once-a-year commemorative issue.

CBE PREPARES TO CONTRIBUTE GREATLY TO THE OIL AND GAS SECTOR

The Rector of the College of Business Education (CBE), Prof. Edda Tandi Lwoga, has noted that the college is prepared to be the savior of the energy sector in the country by providing expert professionals in measurements and standards.

Speaking today, April 27, 2026, in Dar es Salaam during Gender Day, Prof. Lwoga emphasized that CBE holds a unique position in Tanzania and in the East, Central, and Southern Africa region by providing education on measurements and standards, which is very important in the energy and oil sector to ensure commercial accuracy and quality control.

In addition, she requested the Managing Director of Puma Energy Tanzania, Fatma Abdallah, to help in providing training and apprenticeship opportunities for female students to enter the oil sector, which is mostly dominated by men.

"Therefore, we expect that the partnership we are going to establish will first help us more to provide mentorship to our teachers in that metrology department, also to get role models, where also by cooperating we expect that we will get experts who will come to speak to our students from Puma, who will come to share their experience and build more confidence in our students in entering that sector," Prof. Lwoga explained.

Furthermore, the college has promised to make gender equality a part of the institution's culture. Prof. Lwoga noted that the goal is to build an inclusive environment where every member of CBE is valued and empowered to reach the peak of their potential.

Prof. Lwoga congratulated Director Fatma Abdallah for her strong leadership that enabled Puma Energy Tanzania to provide a substantial dividend to the government last year, something that proves an institution led by a woman can do great things economically."

DR. LULU ADVISES CBE TO INCREASE MARKETING EFFORTS TO ATTRACT GIRLS IN ICT

A gender issues expert from the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), Dr. Lulu Mahai, has challenged the leadership of the College of Business Education (CBE) to conduct a thorough evaluation of the distribution of responsibilities and academic promotions to eliminate the gender gap.

Speaking today, April 27, 2026, in Dar es Salaam during the Gender Day Commemorations at the college, Dr. Mahai emphasized that true equality should be seen at the academic and leadership levels at the college.

Although CBE has achieved great success in the overall student enrollment ratio, Dr. Mahai warned that there might be a large gap within specific courses.

She wanted the leadership of the college to look at STEM, ICT, and Accounting courses. If women are few, the college must set intentional marketing strategies to attract that gender.
