
On January 20, 2026, the Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade, Dennis Londo, made an official visit to the Kilimanjaro Campus site of the College of Business Education (CBE) in Kilimanjaro Region. He first arrived at the Office of the Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner, where he was received by the Regional Commissioner, Nurdin Babu, who was accompanied by members of the regional leadership and the management of CBE. The CBE delegation was led by the Chairperson of the Governing Board, Zacharia Mganilwa, and the Rector, Edda Tandi Lwoga, together with other institutional leaders. After receiving a short briefing from the Regional Commissioner, the Deputy Minister proceeded to begin his visit to the campus area.
During the visit, the Deputy Minister met with regional leaders, district officials, and representatives from Hai District, including leaders from Mnadani Ward and Shirinjoro Village. A joint meeting and group photo brought together the Kilimanjaro regional leadership led by the Regional Commissioner and the CBE leadership led by the Board Chairperson, showing cooperation between the Government and the institution in supporting the new campus project.

The Deputy Minister was later guided by the Rector to visit the 15.64-acre plot of land located in Shirinjoro Village, Hai District, where the new CBE Kilimanjaro Campus is planned to be built. The visit allowed him to see the area and understand the plans for the construction of the campus, which is expected to expand access to higher education in the region.
Speaking during the visit, the Rector, Prof. Edda Tandi Lwoga, said that CBE plans to start the first phase of infrastructure construction in the 2026/2027 financial year. She explained that once this phase is completed, the college will increase its capacity to offer education in business, tourism, hospitality, and related professional fields at both national and international levels. She also stated that funds for the implementation of the project have been provided by the World Bank through the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) program.
The Chairperson of the Governing Board, Prof. Zacharia Mganilwa, said that the Kilimanjaro Campus aims to be part of the solution to challenges facing the tourism sector. He explained that the campus will produce skilled professionals in tourism and related cross-cutting business fields, with the goal of growing and strengthening the tourism industry.
In his remarks, the Deputy Minister said that through the construction of the new campus, the Government expects to produce more professionals in business and tourism within Kilimanjaro Region. He noted that the new campus will help address employment challenges and that residents of Shirinjoro Village will be the first beneficiaries. He emphasized that the tourism sector makes a significant contribution to the national income, and that the college will help provide solutions to challenges facing the sector. He told residents that their children will benefit from their decision to allow the college to be built in their area.

He further assured the community that the Government will ensure the college is constructed, as the project is part of the Government’s vision. He also pointed out that many Tanzanians currently participate in tourism activities as laborers, and that CBE will produce qualified professionals to address this situation and improve the sector.
The visit demonstrated the Government’s commitment to strengthening higher education in business and tourism, while creating new opportunities for the people of Shirinjoro Village, Hai District, and the wider Kilimanjaro Region.
