Training for Desk Officers Responsible for Students’ Health Insurance Coverage
During the period under review, the Directorate of Students’ Services, in collaboration with the ICT Unit, organized a training program for all officers responsible for NHIF matters across all CBE campuses. The training took place from 26th to 29th August 2025 at NHIF Headquarters in Dodoma.
The primary objective of the training was to address recurring challenges experienced during the 2024/2025 academic year and to enhance the capacity of Desk Officers in managing health insurance processes. The training was practical in nature, facilitated by NHIF programmers alongside the CBE programmer, and emphasised equipping participants with hands-on skills.
Training Content
Desk Officers were taken through detailed sessions on:
- Proper procedures for registering new students.
- Renewal of memberships for continuing students.
- Generation of control numbers.
- Troubleshooting and resolving system mismatches between CoSIS and OMRS.
- Other operational issues relating to students’ NHIF matters.
Outcomes
- Desk Officers presented the practical challenges they had been encountering in the course of handling NHIF processes.
- Some of the challenges were resolved immediately through technical interventions by the CBE and NHIF programmers.
- Other challenges that required systemic adjustments were documented for long-term solutions.
The training reaffirmed the mutual commitment of CBE and NHIF to work collaboratively in resolving challenges related to student health insurance. Both institutions agreed that systematic collaboration, proactive planning, and continuous technical support will be essential for ensuring smooth operations in the 2025/2026 academic year.
