Awareness Seminar on Non Communicable Diseases Health

During the period under review, the Directorate of Students’ Services at Mwanza Campus organized an Awareness Seminar on Non Communicable Diseases Health. The seminar was held on

on 16th May 2025 and was attended by 133.The facilitator was facilitated by Ms Halima Athuman (Project officer) and Mr. Sato Sylivester (Clinic officer) from Queens Corridol organization. The primary goal of the seminar was to raise awareness among students about non-communicable diseases, their risk factors, prevention strategies, and the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles. The facilitators addressed the following topics:

  • Definition and Types of NCDs: Including diabetes, hypertension, cancer, heart diseases, chronic respiratory conditions, and mental health issues.
  • Risk Factors: Poor diet, physical inactivity, tobacco use, excessive alcohol consumption, stress, and environmental factors.
  • Prevention Strategies:
  • Early Detection and Management: The importance of recognizing symptoms early and seeking medical attention promptly.
  • Role of Youth in Health Promotion: Students were encouraged to take responsibility for their health and influence peers to adopt healthy behaviors.
