Employability Skills Seminar

During the period under review, the Directorate of Students' Affairs at Mwanza Campus organized an employability skills seminar for students. The seminar was conducted on 20th May 2025 and attended by 147 students. The session was facilitated by Mr. Andrew Mhagama, the Principal Labor Officer, from Tanzania Employment Service Agency (TaESA), among others the Key employability skills highlighted were:

  • Job-specific and Soft Skills: Such as digital literacy, which is increasingly demanded by employers
  • Industry-Specific Software Knowledge: Including familiarity with accounting packages, digital marketing tools, and Human Resource Management Information Systems (HRMIS).
  • Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal communication and the ability to collaborate effectively with others.
  • Time Management: Emphasizing the importance of managing time efficiently as a vital resource.
  • Interpersonal Relationship Skills: Including integrity, accountability, and transparency in the workplace.
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) Writing and Application Letter Writing: Guidance on writing effective cover letters tailored to specific job applications.

Students were encouraged to actively pursue employment opportunities by:

  • Registering on job search platforms like the Public Service Recruitment Portal and other private recruitment websites such as Rabar Recruitment.
  • Creating professional profiles on LinkedIn and leveraging networking opportunities.
  • Attending career-related events such as job fairs, conferences, and career days.
  • Visiting company websites—especially those of banks, mining companies, and other major employers—for job openings.
