ORIENTATION SEMINARS EMPOWER NEW STUDENTS AT THE COLLEGE OF BUSINESS EDUCATION

As part of the comprehensive orientation program, the Directorate of Student Services at the College of Business Education organized a series of seminars on 18th October 2024 for all new students at the certificate, diploma, and bachelor levels. These sessions were designed to provide essential information and guidance on a wide range of topics crucial for student life.   

The seminars included sessions on services offered by the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), gender-based violence in higher learning institutions, prevention and combating of corruption, NIDA services, digital safety and cybersecurity, and ethics in college life. Each of these topics was presented by experts in their respective fields, ensuring that students received valuable and practical knowledge.

 

Mr. Rogers Mkisi from the NHIF (Ilala Branch) led a session explaining how students can secure health insurance coverage, the hospitals that accept the NHIF card, and the services included and excluded under the plan.

Ms. Theopista Naluyaga from the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) educated students on common corruption behaviors found in higher learning institutions and shared practical steps to prevent and combat such practices as responsible students of the college.

Mr. Slivanus Njenga from the President’s Office Ethics Secretariat emphasized the importance of maintaining ethical behavior. He spoke on the role of the Ethics Secretariat and how ethical conduct contributes to being a good citizen and a successful student.

Inspector Hadija, from the Central Police Station's Gender Desk, addressed gender-based violence, outlining what students can do if they fall victim. She urged students not to stay silent when their rights are violated, emphasizing the importance of speaking up.

Detective Emmanuel from the Central Police’s Cybercrime Unit highlighted digital safety and cybersecurity, explaining the types of digital devices that are prohibited and the potential legal consequences of possessing them illegally.   

Mr. Njidan Ringo from the National Identification Authority (NIDA) discussed the process for students to obtain a National Identification Number (NIN) and clarified the eligibility criteria for receiving NIDA identification.

The Office of the Dean, represented by Principal Social Welfare Officer Mr. Marco Stephano, provided an overview of student disciplinary rules and campus life. He encouraged students to remain vigilant and avoid falling prey to scammers, commonly known as "matapeli."

The President of the student organization, Mr. Mathew Mtimba, also welcomed the new students, offering insights into student life and the role of the student organization in supporting and representing them throughout their time at the college.

These seminars provided a solid foundation for the new students, equipping them with the knowledge and resources needed for a successful and fulfilling academic journey at the College of Business Education.
