Edda Lwoga Profile

Professor Edda Tandi Lwoga is a distinguished academic, researcher, and institutional leader currently serving as the Rector of the College of Business Education (CBE) in Tanzania. She is also a Professor in the Department of ICT and Mathematics at CBE and the Vice Chairperson of the Research4Life Executive Council, which supports equitable access to academic content in developing countries. Prof. Lwoga holds a PhD in Information Studies from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, a Master of Science in Engineering Management (Industrial and Information Technology), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Scientific Computing, both from the University of Dar es Salaam. Her academic journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science from Makerere University, Uganda. She has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and conference papers in high-impact forums. She has led and participated in numerous internationally funded research projects, collaborating with institutions such as the University of Eastern Finland, Makerere University, University of Cape Town, and the United Nations Technology Bank. Her projects have received support from prominent funders including the Academy of Finland, European Union, Sida, DFID, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Elsevier Foundation, and COSTECH. Prof. Lwoga serves on multiple national and international boards, advisory committees, and editorial boards. She has been the Chairperson of the ASIS&T Africa Chapter (2020-2021), a board member of Africa Commons, Research4Life User Representative (2019-2021), a members of the EAC Regional Experts’ Working Group (Ewg) On Digital Health, Data, Technologies  Innovations (DIDATI), a member of the UNESCO/UNTWIN Research Network on Green Skilling and Capacity Development for Sustainable Communities in Africa, and a member of several expert working groups in digital health and evidence synthesis. Her extensive consultancy work spans organizations such as the United Nations Technology Bank for Least Developed Countries (UNTBLDC), University of Minnesota, Cornell University, Information Training and Outreach Center for Africa (ITOCA), East Africa Community (EAC), and East African Health Research Commission (EAHRC). Prof. Lwoga continues to champion digital transformation, evidence-based practice, and capacity building through training, research, and policy influence across Africa and beyond.
