DETECTION, DETERRANCE AND PREVENTION OF INSTITUTIONAL FRAUD

Morogoro's District Commissioner, Hon. Rebecca Nsemwa, has commended the College of Business Education (CBE) for introducing a course on investigating corruption issues and combating bribery.

She stated that the course will significantly contribute to the country's efforts against corruption, as it will enhance people's understanding of the consequences of corruption and how to combat it.

She made these remarks today during the opening of a 5-day training program to build the capacity of public and private sector employees in anti-corruption matters.

She emphasized that corruption is a challenge in the country, affecting access to justice in decision-making bodies, including the courts and the police. She mentioned other sectors prone to corruption, such as those providing social services, including hospitals, where services may be denied without a bribe.

CBE Rector Prof. Edda Tandi Lwoga, mentioned that CBE has already initiated the process of providing such education and welcomed people from various countries to come and learn at the institution.

Prof. Lwoga stated that the course will start at the certificate level, and upon completion, students will undergo exams recognized both nationally and internationally, allowing graduates to work anywhere.

"At the moment, CBE offers short courses to government and private institutions on corruption and bribery investigations. However, we are now preparing to launch long-term courses starting from the certificate level, and once the curriculum is finalized, we will submit it to the examination council for review," said Prof. Lwoga.

Stella Cosmas, a Lawyer and Anti-corruption Trainer from CBE, mentioned that after introducing the long-term certificate course, students will take international exams, enabling many Tanzanians to gain international recognition.

She highlighted that many institutions currently hire foreign professionals for such roles, while there are numerous young Tanzanians who, with proper education, can perform well and compete on a global scale.
