AWARENESS SEMINAR ON GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING TO PEER EDUCATORS

During the period under review the Directorate of Students’ Services on training on guidance and counselling to peer educators. The seminar was 6th February 2024 and 32 peer educators attended. The training was facilitated by Mr Jusine Urio and Ms Catherine Donald Registered Nurse from Nyakato Dispensary  
Among others, the following matters were presented:
•    Types of contraceptives which included male and female condoms and different types of family planning methods
•    Uses of contraceptives and how to use the contraceptives through demonstrations
•    Counseling approaches which include client-centered approach, counselor-centered approach and eclectic approach
•    Counseling ethics such as setting and maintaining boundaries, confidentiality and rapport building
•    Counselling skills such as active listening, empathy, nonverbal communication, and reflective skills
