The College of Business Education (CBE) has become the first institution in Tanzania's education sector to undertake a students' hostel construction project through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), with the feasibility study already completed.
Speaking earlier today, September 20, 2024, at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Dar es Salaam, during a special event to introduce the project to the market, the Executive Director - PPPC, David Kafulila, commended CBE for leading the way with an exemplary project that other institutions should follow.
“We encourage all higher education institutions in the country to consider how they can undertake similar projects in the area of student accommodation without relying on Treasury funds. This approach should not only apply to universities but also to other government authorities where private companies are ready to invest. We should allow them to do so,” Kafulila said.
On her part, the Rector of the College, Prof. Edda Tandi Lwoga, stated that the project aims to bring about significant changes, as the College currently provides accommodation for only 1.3% of its students, forcing many students to seek housing outside the campus.
“When this project is completed, it is expected to have dormitories capable of housing 2,728 students, with an estimated cost of 20.7 billion Tanzanian shillings. Our goal is to ensure that we provide our students with a safe and conducive learning environment by collaborating with the private sector,” said Prof. Tandi.
