The Minister for Industry and Trade, Hon. Dr. Selemani Jafo, has expressed great confidence in the College of Business Education (CBE) and its leadership, emphasizing the college's crucial role in addressing employment challenges in Tanzania. Speaking during his brief visit to the college today, September 5, 2024, Dr. Jafo highlighted his optimism that CBE will continue to contribute significantly to the development of youth through business education.

“I have great confidence in CBE's leadership. As a business college, you have a major responsibility to ensure that you produce a new generation of youth who will not only be self-employed but will also be employable and contribute to the country’s economic transformation,” said Dr. Jafo.

The minister emphasized that, with the broad range of academic programs offered at CBE, the institution has a unique opportunity to equip youth with the skills necessary to become professionals and innovators in various sectors, particularly in building their capacity for self-reliance and successful business ventures.

Praise for Innovation in Training Bus Operators and Real Estate Brokers

During the visit, Dr. Jafo commended CBE for its innovation in providing short-term training programs for long-distance bus operators and real estate brokers. He noted that this initiative not only enhances efficiency in these sectors but also helps formalize the passenger transport sector, creating more formal employment opportunities for young people.

“I am pleased to see this innovative approach to training long-distance bus operators, as it will not only improve their services but also increase formal employment for many young people,” added Dr. Jafo.

CBE Proud of Its Achievements in Education and Training

Presenting the college’s progress report to the minister, CBE Rector, Professor Edda Tandi Lwoga, highlighted that the college continues to fulfill its core responsibilities of teaching, research, and providing professional consultancy services. She noted that, in the 2023/24 academic year, CBE successfully reached 1,500 entrepreneurs through entrepreneurship training, aimed at enhancing their business capabilities.

“Through our short-term training programs, we have successfully trained 42 long-distance bus operators and 23 real estate brokers, equipping them with the necessary skills for their professions. We believe that this training will help them improve their efficiency and achieve economic independence,” stated Professor Lwoga.

Dr. Jafo concluded his visit by urging CBE's leadership to continue developing strategies and programs that will help even more youth achieve their goals through quality education that addresses the skills and demands of the job market.

Minister Jafo’s visits underscore the government’s commitment to supporting higher education institutions like CBE, which play a vital role in empowering youth to drive positive change in society and boost the nation's economy.
