Measurement Uncertainty Analysis and Propagation (MET-SC 0419)
Course Details:
Course Title: | Measurement Uncertainty Analysis and Propagation |
Course code: | MET-SC 0419 |
Department: | Legal and Industrial Metrology |
Date: | 13th May 2019 to 17th May 2019 |
Place: | College of Business Education, Dar es Salaam |
Mode of study: | The course consists of lectures, demos, short exercises, and hands-on using functions for uncertainty analysis from the uncertainty propagation software package, i.e. Metrology |
Rationally of the course:
Measurement Uncertainty Analysis Short Course covers the propagation of measurement uncertainty using the methods outlined in the JCGM/ISO Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement from a statistical perspective. The short course will provide participants with a working knowledge of the methods needed to compute measurement uncertainties, hands-on experience in the application of these methods, and scientific and statistical insight into the interpretation of the results.
Course contains numerous practical techniques for performing uncertainty analyses developed to meet the ISO17025:2005 requirements. Many of these techniques are currently in use in various metrology Institutes and accredited laboratories around the world. This will allow you to get direct assistance with both the software and the process of analysing a measurement process uncertainty of measure.
The Measurement Uncertainty Analysis and Propagation short course is a 5-day course and will be run by the department of Metrology and Standardization at College of Business Education (CBE). This short course is being offered as part of the JCGM 2015 Measurement Science Conference.
Course Objectives:
After successful completion of this training course the delegates will be able to:
• Understand the basics of statistics as it applies to the ISO GUM Method.
• Understand the concepts of measurement uncertainty analysis.
• Be able to perform measurement uncertainty analysis.
• Be able to application of uncertainty propagation software i.e. metRology ®
This course will take the student through the basics of the ISO GUM (Guide to the expression of Uncertainty in Measurement) to advanced concepts and methods designed to enable the student to perform measurement uncertainty analysis, from the simple to the complex measurements.
Methods of training
The course consists of lectures, demos, short exercises, and hands-on applications covering many aspects of the propagation of uncertainty using the methods outlined in the JCGM/ISO Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement.
Exercises and hands-on applications will use functions for uncertainty analysis from the uncertainty propagation software package, i.e. metRology. Participants may bring their own laptops for use during the short course
Recommended Course Prerequisites:
• The student should be familiar with SI Traceability of measurements
• The student should understand the need for periodic calibration.
• The student should have experience with using Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet type program.
Benefits to Organization
The focus of making quality measurements is to reduce uncertainty where possible, and to increase confidence in the measurements. It doesn't matter where the measurements are made: knowing about measurement uncertainty is important in expressing measurement results in design, manufacturing, or quality in the production, medical device, legal metrology or a calibration laboratory.
Target Delegates
There are a wide variety of people that will find this training course beneficial. Everyone involved in standards, metrology laboratories, calibration, auditing, maintenance, quality control, metrology or measurement practices, testing (all disciplines) and calibration laboratory works (from management to workers) stand to gain tremendous knowledge from the material being presented.
Course Fee:
• Local delegates Tsh 400,000
• International delegates Tsh 800,000 ($350)
The course fee includes breakfast, lunch and refreshments during the day. Accommodation is not included and must be booked separately. Concessions available
