Advanced Training Course on Customizing and Using Koha Library Management System

A three days training, hands-on course in which three important modules of Koha will be covered in details namely (1) Koha installation and customization; (2) circulations management and (3) cataloging, serials and reports management. Instructors will introduce all aspects of Koha administration with a focus on setting up the system for your library. Important global and local preferences and how they affect the options available to each library will be introduced. Set-up and administration of circulation, patrons, cataloging and acquisitions and serials will also be covered. Each attendee will access a Koha server using their own Wi-Fi equipped laptop or PC. No previous Linux experience is required, but Basic IT Skills experience is strongly encouraged.
Specifically, the workshop will cover the following Contents:
1. Know the basic workflow and components of a Koha system.
2. Understand the steps involved in importing data into Koha.
3. Understand when to use Global System Preferences versus local library preferences.
4. Enable to set up patrons including defining patron types, defining fields, defaults and 
Authorized values.
5. Enable to set-up circulation rules.
6. Enable to configure cataloging and acquisitions set-up.
7. Obtain experience on using Administration features that are useful after initial system set-up.
8. Enable to access library data using reports and queries.
This course is designed for Systems Administrators working in the Libraries, Library and Information Professionals, Library and Information Science Educators, Documentation Officers, Resource center Managers, LIS Graduates and Undergraduate students. Librarians from Public Service, Ministries and Universities and other higher learning institutions are encouraged to attend.
The training will base on hands on activities, in which at the end of the course participants will have gained competences enabling them to use KOHA to support library operations in their libraries.
The workshop will be conducted from 10th to 12th APRIL, 2019 at the College of Business Education – DAR ES SALAAM, CAMPUS. Participants are required bring their own laptops.
The course fee of TZS 350,000 (for Tanzanians) and equivalent of US$ 200.00 (for foreigners) covers costs of facilitation, training materials (stationery and other consumables), venue, light refreshments and lunch during session. History of CBE

The COLLEGE OF BUSINESS EDUCATION (CBE) was established in 1965 by the Act of the Parliament. COLLEGE OF BUSINESS EDUCATION Act No. 31 of 1965. His Excellency, J.K. Nyerere, the first President of the United Republic of Tanzania officially opened the new College in January 1965. The College was officially named the “College of Business Education” (CBE). The said Act of Parliament gives the College its legal status as an autonomous institution with its Governing Body. The College shall be governed and administered in accordance with the provisions of this Act.
